The listing shows a CD cover with the word 'Complete' in the title. The listing also mentions that there are 2 CDs in the package. I ordered a copy from a seller and received a one CD version of the latest Japanese printing (2004). The two CD version does exist and includes versions of 'God Bless the Child' and 'Hold 'em Joe'. The original single CD version includes 'Powaii', 'St. Thomas', 'Alfie' and 'Moritat' for around 45 minutes of music.
Sonny plays tenor exclusively and is joined by Yosiaki Masuo on guitar, Bob Crenshaw on electric bass, David Lee on drums and James Mtume on percussion. Everyone sounds great and the recording is okay (Sonny sounds as if he has turned away from the mike a few times). If you want some idea of the playing go to a well known site of posted videos and search for the Alfie version.
So the issues surrounding this purchase have nothing to do with the music but with the cost and with getting the complete version.
And if your spouse, significant other, roomies, friends, family and/or pets get head aches when listening to this music then play it when they are not around. Sonny Rollins should never be used that way. Great music is a gift to those who love it not a test to be used on the unwary and/or innocent. No matter how much fun that can be. Just saying.
