Biography:
The composer and pianist Jose Carra is one of the most creative pianists of the new generation of Spanish jazz musicians. His music, strongly influenced by classical music and jazz, refers to many other styles such as rock, pop, electronic or popular music. Poetry also plays a fundamental role in his music, creating a totally personal and recognizable universe.
In 2016 he received the Muéstra-T Málaga award in recognition of his career as a musician and promoter of the image of the city of Malaga and in 2017 the Prize for Record Work of the Association of Musics of Jazz and Modern Music of Catalonia.
2018 is the year of launch of the new work of Jose Carra. An album titled DIARIO DE FLUEL with original songs by Carra, recorded with Bori Albero (double bass) and Dani Domínguez (drums). After the success of the last album of the trio “Verso”, this time they are immersed in a more electronic sound, with minimalist melodies and a rhythmic base close to the electronic and rock.
In “Verso”, this lyrical universe is already captured in which many landscapes are drawn, from the energy of rock to the lyricism of minimalist classical music. One of the tracks on the album, “Kodama”, was named Track of the day in the prestigious digital magazine “All About Jazz”. In his previous album “El Camino”, Jose Carra recorded with the singer Beatriz Pessoa, the saxophonist Enrique Oliver, the bassist Romeu Tristao, the drummer Joao Lopes Pereira and the percussionist Carlos Cortés.
In addition to these projects as a leader, Jose has played and recorded with prestigious jazz musicians such as Sheila Jordan, Eric Alexander, Chris Cheek, Stanley Jordan, Perico Sambeat, Javier Colina, Roberta Gambarini and the world of flamenco as the cantaora Argentina, Jorge Pardo or Carles Benavent. He has worked with some of the best record labels such as Sony Music, Black and White Music or Fresh Sound Records.
As a composer he has made music for film and theater, as well as compositions and arrangements for different symphony orchestras, including the composition of the soundtrack “Coleccionista” Prize of the Fantastic Film Festival of the UMA, the arrangement and orchestration of “Huelva sounds different” of the album of the flamenco cantaora Argentina (Sony Music Spain) and orchestrations for the disc of the Boys of the Choir of Saint Marc “Sing The Beatles” (Black and White Music)
