The duo offers the most intimate dialogue between two musicians: a time when each musician himself up, and dig deep inside himself to express a melody inspired improvisation on the other, this is so magical. This magic has proved the first time that Nico Gori has performed with Fred Hersch. The two musicians met for the first time the North Sea Jazz Festival 2010 in Holland. Nico Gori then played with the Italian pianist Stefano Bollani and Fred Hersch Trio with her two. The two were immediately attracted by the sound of the other.
Returning festival they found themselves in the same bus to the hotel, they talked of Florence and programmèrent to navigate and play together in a jazz club. They played well for the first time and it was a revelation to each of them playing together became clear.
Their relationship to both musical and human is thus born of desire to play together, explore, and especially to learn about the music, which seems to be the highest and noblest of goals, without prejudice or stereotype.
For years I know the work of Fred Hersch has always been a great inspiration, this is an example to follow, a teacher of life and music. It is a wonderful pianist and composer in a good stream and developed. His unique sound on the piano and various configurations have influenced and continue to influence new generations of musicians, Fred Hersch placing among the great figures of contemporary jazz. This is a great privilege for me, a huge honor, and confirmation that I can now share with Fred wonderful moments of music and a deep friendship. At the club, he took out his clarinet and began playing Without a song from the start and I felt a spirit similar to mine. It has one of the best sounds of clarinet in jazz and improvised without fear. I love playing together and it was so easy to play with him from the first notes. So I wanted to invite him to play with me in New York, and then we played in Europe (Florence, Paris and other cities), and pretty quickly our tandem was born. We recorded this disc an afternoon at the incredible studio sound engineer Stefano Amerio at Udine and you listen to the result of this session. We played on stage for the recording and music continues to be increasingly deep and rich.
