A.R. Machines biography
Producer, composer and musician from Hamburg (Germany), Achim Reichel is a key figure in the explosion of krautrock. Reichel was first a founder member of The Rattles at the beginning of the 60's. In 1968 he formed the Wonderland band with the drummer Frank Dostal. Late 60's he launched his first solo musical project called A.R and the machines. Musically it provides a supreme sonic musical voyage turned to cycled psychedelic guitar playing with lot of echoes and delay. The first album was published in 1971 in collaboration with Frank Dostal. The album presents an ambitious collection of spacey rock jams featuring a lot of electronic effects and arrangements. This album prefigures acid trips of krautrock guitar / minimal electronic explorers like Manuel Gottsching. The guitar freakouts and the weird imagination of the first effort continue to prevail in the following inspired, confused and various Die Grune Reise, A.R. IV, Autovision (generally a mix between guitar soudscapes and psych pop orientated songs). Reichel decided to abandon the project after 5 studio albums. Today A.R and the machines remains a high class standard of hypnotic space-echo guitar inventions.

Об альбоме (сборнике)
This is a remastered compilation from all of A.R.'s releases in the 1970's. The album title is translated as Echoes from Times of the Green Journey. I've included the translation of the track names and the original release that they are from in the tracklist below. The tracks are tagged with the German name only.
From the liner notes:
I was quite amazed when my daughter relayed the following message from her friends, Grünen Reise - Cool record! Then there was a DJ, a friend of my hairdresser. He told me that A.R. Machines is being played at goa, trance, and ambient parties. It dawned upon me that something had happened that my critics in the seventies would not have dreamed of, a new generation had discovered something that I thought of as buried deeply in the past.
Actually, I had banned this chapter from my memory long ago. In those days it was rather disappointing to notice that people in my country were rather suspicious of my new ideas. It gave me great satisfaction that this music re-emerged 25 years later without any hype, out of its own magic.
Beyond Rock 'n' Roll, improvisation and experimental freedom were tempting me. I discovered that you can do more things with an Akai X-3300 than simple tape recordings. I used it as an echomachine, and the guitars gave the impulse. The oscillating cascades of echoes gave the time. Like the meditative relaxation produced by mantra repetitions, it is the echoes of manually played melodies in the machine rhythm any more was something new and unusual for the drummers. And I had to get used to an echomachine working like a self-fulfilling prophecy. It mercilessly repeates everything that has been fed in - also the mistakes. In studio sessions, you just cut out the mistakes, but in live shows it got really exciting. The interary of the songs was similar to the one in jazz or Indian raga. We had a suitcase full of melodic themes that were used according to the situation of the wind and the position of the runway.
The music on this CD was kept from official lists for a long time. In those days, bootlegs of poor quality were more profitable for some Krautrock pirates than for me. However, being a pioneer with the right thing at the wrong time, you always risk to be taken advantage of. Therefore I take my Echos aus Zeiten der Grunen Reise, now remastered, and give it another try.
