О группе
Founded in Brno, second largest Czech city and center of Moravian cultural life, 1986 was the year that saw creation of group Kolektiv (meaning Collective). Iva Bittová & Josef Kolsovský handled vocals, Josef Ostøanský & Pavel Richter guitar, Vladimír Václavek bass and finally Pavel Fajt drums. However, all members had their own projects, so they performed quite sporadically at the time.
However, in 1989 saw band alive again, releasing LP Dunaj a Iva Bittová, performing few concerts, but Bittová and Richter left shortly after this period, so Kolsovský became guitarist and frontman. Zdenìk Plachý shortly server as group's keyboardist, being on second album Rosol (Jelly) in 1991, quite dark album. After support tour, band broke up again, but ressurected shortly after in 1992.
This incarnation was longest lasting, with Kolsovský, Václavek, Ostøanský and new drummer Pavel Koudelka. Band recorded two albums, Dudlay in 1993 and IV in 1994. Then Bittová and Fajt joined again, releasing album Pustit musís (Release/Leave You Must) which were re-recorded tracks from their debut along with some new material. Interesting fact is that both Koudelka and Fajt are drumming here. Six members toured, but their last album La La Lai was without them this time.
Group disbanded in 1998, shortly before Kolsovský's death. However, all surviving members remained active in the Czech music scene (some of them possibly Prog). There were reunion concerts with changing constellation from most of past Dunaj members.
Dunaj therefore was one of the more active and lasting bands on Czech scene, managing to release 6 very quality albums, being kind of legend of Czech Avant scene.
