Guy Lee and his Guitar Orchestrations presents his admiration for George Harrison's songwriting and guitar work by recording 10 songs. One tune from each George Harrison solo album. The listening order of the album is chronological, from his first album (All Things Must Pass) to his last (Brainwashed). Choosing not his hits but other beautiful compositions. These guitar-oriented arrangements complement the originals.
George Harrison’s music was unlike any other. The combinations of his beautiful guitar voices, inventive songwriting which followed it’s own path and the heartfelt vocal phrasing of his that aroused your own musical senses, put his music in a category of it’s own. To be able to pick and choose from his rich catalog of songs was as joyful as recording
the tracks. Layering multiple guitars, emulating his slide style flavouring (e.g. horn parts, string sections, harmonious solos...) all while building musical sections via his non-conventional chord choices was orchestrating his compositions using guitars. I grab everything! Strats, Teles, Les Pauls, electric12 strings, acoustics, classical, basses, even an electric uke! My Fender Lead 1 had the lead voice on many of the arrangements. Playing the melody on the guitar reaffirmed what great vocal phrasing he had. I decided only on original compositions from his solo years and selected only one cut from each of his albums, digging deeper than the hits (although I love them as well), touching upon that deep well of his music that he left here on earth.
