In 1988, after having been signed to Polygram Records, New York by Derek Shulman, Lenny Wolf and his manager Marty Wolff (no relation), were asked to put a new band together. The players he chose for his new band were: James Kottak on drums, Danny Stag on lead guitar, Rick Steier on rhythm guitar and Johnny B.Frank on the bass guitar (for more background see Lenny Wolf Biography).
A very lucky event happened when Lenny was introduced to Bob Rock, who is best known for his work with Bon Jovi, Aerosmith, Loverboy and later for Metallica. Working with Bob was one of the best times I've had during my career. Being a musician himself, knowing how to get the best out of a band, a similar outlook on how the sound should be and working in a great studio (LittleMountain in Vancouver, Canada) were major reasons for the first record's success, - says Lenny.
Having finished the record Bob and Lenny flew to New York to mix it at the Electric Lady Studio, formerly owned by Jimmy Hendrix. During the mixing session of Get It On, John Kalodner, a John Lennon look-alike and back then one of American most listened to men, stopped by to say hi. He liked the song and asked if he could take a cassette with him. As far as is known, the tape ended up at a radio station in Detroit, which played the song without anyone in the band or Polygram Records knowing about it. Hard as it is to believe, other stations actually recorded the song off the air since the record had not even been released yet. The American music industry magazine Album Network reported about a mysterious band, which kept the telephone lines of Detroit's rock stations busy for days. Suddenly, a few weeks later, all of America's rock stations were playing Get It On.
A hundred thousand fingernails later, the ticket back to America arrived. Marty became my Manager. Several major labels were very excited about the 2 songs which made Marty, Bruce and me jump up and down on the Mayflower hotel bed in New York. Not knowing what the hell was going on, I was living something Jimi Hendrix called Purple Haze. Guided by Marty we signed to MCA Records L.A. We formed Stone Fury, which became a well - paid education.
The band was actually just Bruce Gowdy and myself, with a bunch of hired musicans. My favorite drummer, whom we had for only a short time, was Randy Costello, who left us to play drums for Ozzy Osbourne. A much better paid gig for him (no bad feelings). After Stone Fury had sold maybe 3 or 4 records, we were dropped by MCA Records. During the following months, I had learned the meaning of Faith. I had locked myself in my apartment, being fed by my manager Marty and his family, and wrote songs with the Mighty old man looking over my shoulder. I ended up with lousy 4 - track demos, which needed a very profesional pair of ears to discover the goods in it.
My manager went shopping the tapes and America passed. Hope arrived through Derek Shulman (AR Polygram Records, New York) who used to be a singer himself in a band called Gentle Giant. He saw the potentcial and gave me a deal. He asked me to put a band together and introduced me to Bob Rock, who ended up producing the record with me. 1987 - the dream began, called - Kingdom Come - !!! Is it destiny, luck, good timing, hard work, is it God´s will or a combination of it all ??? In any case, I certainly learned to be grateful, and want to thank my fans for connecting with me - through the music.
Kingdom Come.
Атмосферность I’ve Been Trying оказалась зааранжированной в громких фрагментах.
Ещё одна новая Is It Fair Enough в привычном для позднего Kingdom Come ключе выглядит очень достойно.
Living Out Of Touch Break Down The Wall
t is not the success of the early days which Lenny Wolf associates KINGDOM COME with, nor earlier hits from his long-standing career. What he really cares about is the present. Is this a contradiction in view of his new album, Rendered Waters (due on March 25, 2011 in Germany; March 28, 2011 in the rest of Europe; and April 5, 2011 in the U.S. via SPV/Steamhammer), which features eight old and three newly recorded songs? Certainly not. All eleven tracks were cut at Lenny's Two Square Noise Factory studio in Hamburg, Germany. In particular, the new recordings of old material show KINGDOM COME's vision of living in the here and now.
I purposely chose tracks from the very early days to show how we play, hear and feel the songs nowadays, says Wolf. Listening habits have changed dramatically, especially among the younger audience, which made it exciting for me to breathe new life into numbers which have not been heard for a while.
For example, Should I is this time played more slowly, giving it a heavier appeal. The drums are more open and the guitars, according to Lenny, feature a more tube-oriented sound and warmer, more driving tone: Just to give it an overall 2011 vibe, he says. Of course, you can only change songs to a certain extent if you don't want to lose the character and central theme of the original version. The same goes for I've Been Trying, Pushing Hard and Living Out Of Touch. None of them has been reinvented, bu
