Об исполнителе (группе)
This intriguing early-'70s Southern Californian group featured the talents of singer/songwriter Merrell Fankhauser (who was also at the helm of cult classics in the '60s by Fapardokly and HMS Bounty) and Jeff Cotton, previously slide guitarist with Captain Beefheart. Their sole album (from 1971) is a gem of the late hippie era, combining the fractured blues-based tangents of Beefheart with the loose flow and stoned lyricism of bands like the late-'60s Grateful Dead. After a couple more singles, Mu moved to Maui and cut a fair amount of unreleased material before breaking up around 1974. Their eponymous album, as well as a lot of their unreleased material, was reissued in the '80s.

End of the Era (1974) 1988 issue
Seventeen songs recorded after their relocation to Maui in 1974. More subdued and acoustic than the Mu LP, but still worthwhile, with Crosby, Stills, Nash-like harmonies, melancholy melodies, and almost prototypically hippie-ish lyrics about visitations from other planets, searches for lost lands, mystical love, and the like.

MU (compilation) 1997
The definitive Mu collection. Besides including all of the 1971 Mu album, this double CD also includes all of the 1974 Mu material that surfaced on the Reckless End of an Era compilation, as well as the four 1974 Mu tracks that were included on Merrell Fankhauser's The Maui Album (also originally on Reckless). Don't worry about sorting out the discographical details; what you need to know is that this has everything in its best-ever sound quality, as well as one song (You've Been There Before) that never came out on the Reckless LPs. The 1974 cuts aren't on the same level as the songs from the 1971 LP, but at its best, this is still cosmic folk-blues-rock in the best sense of the term.
