Об альбоме (сборнике)
One of the worst inventions ever was the combination of keyboards and power metal, this band is living proof of it. X-Piral brings a mix of heavy and power metal like you've heard endlessly over and over again, and above all the use of keyboards makes it even extremely irritating to listen...
This album has only but a few good (fairly enjoyable) songs, and because of that it doesn't stick by and will not be remembered at all. Too many power metal bands these days sound like thirteen in a dozen, but mostly I'm surprised by the originality and creativity that Mediterrenean bands bring. Though when one of these bands doesn't succeed, I cannot but admit. When Greek bands are promoted by playing a mixture of heavy, thrash, power, us metal and progressive, I expect something inventive that'll convince me to play the album weeks on end (like Airged L'Amh for example). Maybe I think too much of it, but there are so many great South-European bands, that my expectations are high. When the progressiveness refers to an overload of synths and the thrash refers to the somewhat harsh vocals sometimes used, it's nothing but a disappointment. The whining pseudo-ballad Hear Me Calling and the annoying repetitive keyboard overload Timechaser are just albums fillers and bring the credibility of this band down. It's a shame, 'cause there is potential in X-Piral - the very atmospheric song Duat (Land of the Dead) is without any doubt one of the better songs on this album. Keys aren't misused here at all, they just support the epic character of the song. Same goes for the brilliant Powerlust, it's almost like a different band is playing! Why couldn't this have been done on more songs? A pretty decent song like The Fire Is Burning Bright is completely raped by the wrong use of synths, afterwards you just have no intention of hearing it again (unless you like computer game sounds).
If you still want to check out the band; expect uninspired guitarplay, a complete misuse of keys and a sometimes quite whining voice. Still interested? Then put the programmer on your stereo on the numbers five and seven (and repeat), the only two songs which can be heard completely without anything irritating about it.
