The Room biography

Between 2008 and 2010, Grey Lady Down vocalist Martin Wilson, drummer Andrew Rae and bassist Andy Rowe worked with guitarists Mark Barrett and Martin Baker on project lovingly entitled BigFish. An EP 'Hook line and sinker' was recorded at Platform Studios, although never released. Logistics and outside commitments soon came into play and it proved impossible to get the band to a level of confidence to play live, so in 2010 the band folded.
After the summer break Martin Wilson and GLD/Sphere³ guitarist Steve Anderson started exchanging emails regarding the possible reunion of GLD. During that time they also discussed the possibly of writing together again. Steve agreed to meet up and jam. Martin then drafted in the BigFish rhythm section in the shape of Andy and Andrew, and after a few promising rehearsals, the Room was born.
After a short while it became apparent that Steve, Andrew and Martin were keen to follow their progressive roots with Andy coming along kicking and screaming, having come from a more traditional rock'n'roll background.
It was clear that keyboards were desperately required, and after a few promising leads, Andy stumbled upon Steve Checkley, to complete the lineup. Steve C, who had recently moved to Berkshire, had also come from a more conventional rock background so, along with Andy, this is proving to be new musical territory for them both.
As rehearsals began the band found that the various styles of their musical backgrounds seemed to compliment the overall sound. The band are conscious of not treading the traditional progressive road that has been catered for amply by great bands in the past, and try and produce a modern style with progressive sensibilities with a more accessible slant.
