Brian Setzer has resurrected and reinvented two American musical genres. First, he brought back rockabilly and kicked it up a notch in the early 1980s with his band the Stray Cats, amidst a sea of synth-based British pop, corporate rock, and American metal. He developed this guitar-driven '50s rock style by making it even more virtuosic and rebellious than was Originally possible. Second, more than a decade later, the ever-evolving Setzer began fronting an otherwise traditional big band, leading a swing revolution that helped save us from the stagnating grunge and- alternative scene. Of course, the bands of the '40s never had a master guitar player with a rock 'n' roll heart out in front.

Arthur Rotfeld is a guitarist, composer, and teacher. He received bachelor degrees in education and jazz studies from the University of Bridgeport and earned a Master of Fine Arts in composition from SUNY Purchase, where he also taught solfege. Arthur has been a private instructor of guitar, bass, and piano, and currently teaches guitar classes and music theory in the Tarrytown School District in NY. Arthur spent five years as the educational music editor at Cherry Lane Music, where he wrote and edited numerous instructional guitar books. His work has also appeared in Guitar magazine and on Guitar. com. Arthur lives in White Plains, NY, and performs regularly in the New York metropolitan area. Visit him on the web at rotfeld.
